very slick fish, yes.

This flowerhorn (http://www.arofanatics.com/members/holland23/fishlovecatbchampion/) sold for $35,000. The key selling feature of the fish was the distinct black-ringed heart-marking, plainly visible below the dorsal fin in the first pic.

Some people have way to much money, there are houseboats (out of Manaus) that sleep 12 you can lease @ $12000/wk inc. meals and side trips via zodiac. They will arrange help for shipping and permits. Add in airfare for everyon and a chance to catch something new and a little spending money and you have that one fish. I know the choice I would take!

I thought the highest paid price for a fish was a Koi...?

The highest paid Aquarium fish was an Red Asian Aro..? Following by Flowerhorns..

Rarest Fish? Now that is a toss up!! Don't forget about all the coldwater, deepwater, and other crazy fish, as well as fish that aren't able to live in captivity!

Anything that has been selectively bred to bring out coloration or pattern, IMO, should be thrown out the window. So that would mean you would have to get rid of all the oriental color morphs, and narrow it down to wild-caught Aquaria fish.

The hairy-puffer T. Borleyi (sp) that Rare Aqua got in recently, is VERY VERY Rare. Also, C. Psittacus from South America is a VERY rare FW puffer. I also like the impressive Leopoldi morphs, they are awesome! T. Pustulatus is another gorgeous puffer, you might recognize it as the red spotted puffer from the MFK ads in TFH.

I am very partial to this ray, However!!

Rarest one?? Let's not forget Polypterus ansorgii. There are NONE of these fish in captivity at all so the price of one can't be estimated. In fact....according to Frank Schaefer in the Aqualog Polypterus book, there are only three known preserved specimens!

Now THAT is a rare fish!

5 in captivity, 3 preserved. including two that are for sale in the UK.

Copied form a Uk magazine artical.

"Most people have never seen a single specimen alive, even if they may have lived their whole life along the riverbanks of its natural distribution area."

Tom says that the species is so rare that even museum collections have very small numbers of preserved fish available for study.

He told us: "Although the species was described in 1822, worldwide, as far as I know, there are only eight specimens in total.

"One specimen is privately owned and kept in a tank in Switzerland; two were shipped to Japan and their whereabouts is not known, and the remaining three specimens are preserved in Asian museum collections."

They had a platinum aro for sale at a store when I first started the hobby... I didn't know what it was and decided that 160 USD was too much for a fish...
