Monster Planted Tank Keeper!!
I might be recieviving 500g tank for free sometime in the next 2 weeks, it has a cracked bottom plate. If I overlay that with a 3/8-5/8 piece of lexan can I use it? The biggest tanks I have kept in the past were 150's.

I have heard of Amano tank. It stresses on the natural settings of both the floral and fauna. I'm not sure whether mine is an Amano or Dutch. Maybe a combination of both? Let me take a picture of my 51-gallon tank and show you. Maybe you can help me judge. :)

The aquarium can be viewed from three sides (1 breadth and 2 lengths) of the tank.

lovely! what type of lighting you got on that tank?
Corydoras
05-08-2005, 4:08 AM
Atinan tubular florescent lighting run by electronic ballast. I used to turn on all the lamps and resulted in a 'bloom' of algae. The lamps emit powerful white light.

Personally, I think CO2 fertillization is vital for a planted tank.

I think its about high time that I did a major rescape. Thankfully in Singapore there are quite a variety of plants. Makes it easier for me to rescape. But the frigging problem is when I have to uproot my existing plants. All the base fert just leeches into the water. Pain in the arse... :swear:

With that dense setup i think you need CO2. There are a lot of DIY plans
out there...
But yeah i dont like CO2 too...

You can do without co2 but then again you'll be limited in your choice of plants. Examples are nanas.

True. Anubias Nana (foreground plant, can see my second picture, those short plants in the foreground) is a plant that grows very slow. Though it is hardy and needs no bright light, CO2 fertilizer is vital. I used a lot for my tank. You can even grow them on driftwood. :)
