Yes, frontosas tend to be happier in groups. Fronts rule! :headbang2
That is your best bet, but what size tank do you have, if you plan on having a colony I would suggest a 180gal+ tank depending on how many you have total.

Yeah, the bigger the tank the better for a colony of fronts.

A 6' 125 should be a minimum for a first time frontosa keeper. You can put 6-8 of them in there. Obviously, the bigger the tank, the more you can add. Just dont scrimp on the filtration.

Now I have a general question about Fronts after seeing them mixed in with regular south american cichlids (Pikes, Red devils, LUkes, etc) they were mixed in at a few LFS who were charging top dollar for them.....The LFS seemed to feel it was ok - I was under the impression they need the african salt along with the akaline 7.6 or higher PH
would this be a bad Idea long term? and which direction should the water setup be? more in favor of the Fronts or the regular cichlids?

Depending on what your local water supply is like, a rift lake salt additive isin't normally necessary. I do recomend a Ph of 8.0 or higher. I would never consider mixing Frontosa with South/Centrals as they grow much much slower, and are pretty passive given their size. Frontosa do best in groups, but I've seen many kept as individuals, but I don't think they are as happy as they could be that way. You may ask the folks at your LFS to move them for me.... :D I'd sleep better at night.

Yeah, they do a whole lot better in schools of at least 6 or more. And remember... he will definately appreciate it more if you get him Female fronts. :naughty:
