A little while back there was some interest in greater sirens. Well I still haven't found any of those for sale but I did find it's larger cousin the CONGO EEL which gets to around 45" long :22_yikes: and eat fish and crustaceans, they are $10 ea. for 18"-24" and $12 ea for 24+" specimins plus UPS charge and a $2 dollar handling charge for orders under $25. They are fully aquatic fresh water predators and just look cool. the site that has them is a biological supply house @ http:/www.nilesbio.com The scientific name is Amphiumas means. Just thought I would pass this on for anyone looking for a large odd addition to their tank. :) I think the price is a good one!

Hiya Pat Magee, these are close relatives of the "rubber eel" and the only ones I have found online. Good price. That is www.nilesbio.com

Which is why guppy posted this thread in the "Reptiles, Amphibians and Other Exotic Pets" forum.

My mom's had both a greater siren and an amphiuma. The amphiuma didn't live very long; I think it was sick with my mom got it...but the siren lived for almost ten years although they can live for over twenty.
