about 10 of them in tanks
easily 2k a fish
here's the link: http://www.tomhalvorsen.co.uk/info/fish/barcash.htm
and here are some pics: http://www.tomhalvorsen.co.uk/miscfish.htm
5 in captivity, 3 preserved. Two of the five are for sale in the UK for £5000 or $8870 at the current rate at www.tomhalvorsen.co.uk
I understand they are very rarely seen in the wild.
I want them, but can't afford them.

true barca is beautiful... for quite some time, aurantimaculata was mistaken for barca.

I had heard this also, not sure how they got confused, I have a Aurantimaculata and it looks nothing like a Barca. Maybe to the untrained eye!

Limited or unknown resources, I'm assuming? I mean if rare in the wild, makes it that much harder to attain data on them.

No breeding acheived yet, Although I believe Tom Halvorsen are attempting to do so with the pair they have.

Almost 9000 bucks for a fish! I love fish but it is not worth it to me. If I were to spend $9000 on a fish it would have to be really colorful and like play fetch and make breakfast. :hitting:

for me the aurantimaculata are a nicer fish anyway. im a friend of toms and the fish were really nice but the price of a fish is down to availability , barca are very rare but itll probably not be too long until someone breeds them and they become more available. like i said, my favourite channa is the aurantimaculata, the colours are great,.

I would pay $9000 for a girl that would stay over and make breakfast!

Colors are great but rarity has is allure, the barca's have both.
the aurantimaculata seems to be rare at the moment too, tom was telling me that his supplier in india hasnt seen any for a while and that even though they are a food fish they havent been turning up in the markets lately either

aurantis are not even close to being rare. Many posters here on MFK have an auranti. Even wildwoods recently had them at around 50 quid each, and in asia they are plentiful. And pretty normal snakehead prices from what I have seen.
Barca are proper rare, something like only 7 in captivity in the world.
It doesn't get much rarer than that :)

is the barca a toothless snakehead? dumb question I'm sure but by looking at the pic on that site I'm having a hard time seeing any.

if you look at what i said it was that they seem rare at the moment - ididnt mean that they are rare in the hobby - but that they are rare in the trade at the moment

they do have quite sharp teeth, someone in the shop was bitten by one!
