I've been reading alot of threads on diffrent aggressive fish hobbiest forums about people buying their first piranha and not being happy that it's not living up to its reputation.
I think its safe to say that around 90% of young or novice piranha keepers buy their fish at a store thinking that when they bring it home it's going to be satan himself in his tank. I'm guilty of doing this over 10 years ago when I got my first RBP...which I might add was 7 babies in a ten gallon tank :hitting: . I always wanted to have a great white shark, and having these p's was the only possible substitute. After time, I realized that these fish are NOT what people believe them to be....Terminating the hobby for alot....Intensifying the hobby for a few. I just happen to be part of that few. I learned other traits about the fish and after a while I just didn't want to keep anything else.
With the exception of a few individual fish, piranha's are not glass bangers. Do not purchase them with that being the only reason you want them. Get something else...snakehead, flower-horn ect. Most piranha are skiddish at a young age for a long time and that ends up driving new-to-the-hobby aquarist's crazy.

I'm in Iraq right now twin and for some reason I can't get the link to work...
I'm guessing it has to do with an aggressive Rhom.
"with the exception of a few..."
meaning around 10 out of 100.
I had a gold serra before I joined the army...coolest fish I've ever owned. If anybody came near the tank he went balistic biting and smashing his head into the glass. He would wait for me to use the fricken algea magnet scrapper and would just attack it with extreme hatred....The second you dipped you finger in the water he would take off and hide. Funniest thing ever at parties. People would stare at him and say no way they were sticken anything in that tank!
Oh man..now I miss that pycho.

I don't let it play with "those kind of fish" but it hits the glass way harder then that one does.

"those kind of fish"= fish that eat feeders

I said the same thing several years ago until I came across a 7" Brandi & an 11"
Ven. Rhom @ the lfs. Those guys were absolutely bananas...especially the Rhom...He was "fed" a med.-sz koi & just murdered it...The crazy part is, he didnt even eat it... As far as the Brandtii, his face probably got "glass-burned" from trying to attack passer bys...So it all depends on the particular fish, but for the most part they're pretty aggressive as they age & become accustomed to their tanks...tank location, water parameters, tank size, etc. are also some factors to the different types of behavior.

Also, I've seen some lrg crazy Reds believe it or not.
