I recently recieved an old school 150 gallon tank. I was just wondering if anyone knew how to tell if it is tempered glass or not. There are no center braces on it and it is thicker than the new 150 I have. Any info would be appreciated thanks

would this be on an adhesive label or something? There is definitely not a label on it. The tank looks pretty darn old. I would guess at least 20 years old.

between plated and tempered, tempered can take on more pain, plated will shatter. Temper is awesome more. I sell fireplaces and there is a huge differance with tempered and plated along with ceramic. I bet it is plated glass

The only safe thing to do, IMO, is to go with hang on overflow boxes. I did the same thing with a used 180 I bought. Bought a 1200 gph overflow box w/prefilter sponges for $29.99 on ebay.

I wouldnt, go have it cut @ a glass store

I just got the exact same tank.

It is friggin heavy!!!!

No center brace because the front and rear glass is a 1/2 inch thick.

I paid 65 for it.

I wouldnt chance drilling or anything go with the HOB overflow, Ive had good luck with the one I have.

Taking it to a glass store and having it drilled isn't going to change the outcome if it is tempered. My guess is that it is tempered. I have a 20+ year old 135 no center brace, and it is tempered glass.
