the reds are very young and fat, for sure one day, even with over feeding the will kill them, they will want to prove who's boss and that will be the end of it!
I feel sorry for the cichla as they are living on borrowed time...

Having kept piranhas for years, and not jsut red bellies but all spcies of the pygocentrus genus and 4 of the serrasalmus I can tell you that your pbass WILL NOT be a permanent member of your tank!

Hey man, just wonderin, Im thinkin about gettin some pirahanas and is it true that they leave so much dead food at teh bottom that you have to clean the tank everyday? Is keepin pirahans worth it in your opinion?
Great tank by the way, if I end up gettin them thats what I want it to look like...

Send me th peacock, pullease :) Silver dollars and tinfoil barbs work well with P's so do tiger barbs, they are all faster than the RBP. I have also added neon tetras and cardinal tetras with large P's as the tiny fish do not trigger a feeding reflex

how big were ur p's when the neons survived? i want to add some tetras as well? i have seen in books pics of large rbp's and tetras living in a comunity? mine r from 5"-7.5" long think the tetras would survive?

he survived for almost 2 months, i jus pulled them out because the piranhas are growing so damn fast i almost saw death in the near future. i can't believe how big my ps are after only less then 2 months. its amazing to me. i feed them such a variety, shrimp, smelt, silver sides, hikari gold, hikari staple, krill, rosy reds, super-gold hai feng color enhancing pellets.

did u read my post? i pulled them out.
large piranhas dont go for small tetras, why? because there so small n so fast, its not worth the energy it takes to actually catch n eat one. so they dont usually bother.

so are there any fish that can be tank mates with pirahnas?
Pfisherman
11-14-2006, 11:07 PM
there are quite a few, including (but not completely limited to) tiger barbs, silver dollars and tinfoil barbs. these are fast moving fish that dont stand still long enough for the Ps to eat them. Large plecos can also do well usually as long as you put them in large with small Ps

exadon tetras seem to work good with piranhas. sell a lot of them to people at the store where i work. and have yet to have any1 complain.
Aside from plecos, i have seen small fast tetras living with adult piranhas.
But the tetra are for ever running and hiding.
The Pbass will not last forever, but no one can blame you for experimenting.
After all, you may get lucky and have some tame/laid back piranhas.
