I cant believe it.. my Altifrons ( shiny fish in my gallery) turned vicious overnight..
almost killed the other geo ( fainted i revived it in another tank) and just now
saw it attacking my rays! I couldnt believe it!!! I thought geos and rays were a perfect match since geos are known to be docile.
Dont know what went wrong. I think its because i was feeding it blackworms for 1 week. It turned aggressive from eating live foods...

IME, Geo's do get aggressive.
I loved the altifrons I had, but they started beating on my juvie GT's, so I sold them, and now I'm happy with my GT male that also turns out to be crazy. It killed my prized super red sev, my prized 8" blue dempsey, and some amazing oscars I had.

whoever says geos arnt aggressive doesnt have alot of experience with them

My geos are relentless on themselves ensuring the pecking order is maintained. Plus they hold there own against the larger cichlids

this is whats wrong, you have Altifrons and one Surinamensis. thay are hard to tel thim apart but Surinamensis can be meen to Altifrons that that mine did

Certain Altifrons are aggressive. It really depends on the fish itself. Was your Altifrons attacking your Balzani? How many of each do you have?
My most aggressive geo is Tapajos II. My largest male ripped off one of my females eyes. I had two breeding pairs together. And the female that wasn't paired with my largest male was the victim. Needless to say, each pair has their own tank now.
My most peaceful are my Tapajos 'Orangeheads'.

I have some S.Daemon , and they maintain a pecking order for sure. 1 picks on 2 and 3 and then when thats over 2 goes over and picks on 3 again lol. But as tank hierarchy they are bossed around a bit by my male Nic tho my choclate never seems to bother with them at all.

From what I have heard the altifrons are pretty nasty so I went with the red heads. Turns out my red heads are pretty tough also. Guess these geos are moving up I'm the world.

Bigfishsmallpond: No - that`s not correct. These are clearly two different species.
Geo. sp. Red Head Tapajos is a currently undescribed species in very close relation to RH Araguiaia. These two might very well be the same species with just minor geographical differences - at least in my opinion.
Geo. altifrons is widely distributed in South America and there is lots and lots of different types.
A very easy way to recognize the altifrons is that it is the only known Geophagus where adults don`t have the lateral spot or the spot is just a faint hint of the spot you fing in other Geophagus.
Geo. sp. Red Head have a clearly vislible spot - altifrons don`t.
Also you can look at the tail to see another difference: altifrons do have a spotted tailfin - RH has got a tailfin with stripes.
