My Jardini's fins seem to have a decent amount of tears in them. I thought maybe it could be my CK however he doesnt even come out of his hiding spot. My Aro is a tad on the skittish side and does tend to run into things when spooked. Could him just being that way cause his fins to do this? Will it get better are he gets bigger? Both the pleco and CK in the tank have perfect fins however the aros are starting to bug me. I am currently doing 2 75% water changes every week.

I would start watching your tank after you turn the lights out. CK are know for being night time terrors.

How big are all the fish in the tank? Which one is dominant?

Jardini is probably around 7 inches and the CK is the same. The Aro is always out and the CK hides inside a bell in the tank. The CK only comes out at night.

if your ck is pickin on your jar dont worry bout it, the jar will eventually kill your ck and pleco. that will give it plenty of time to heel his fins. sad but true.:(

I have a 16" jar with a 14" CK. They've been together since the jar was about 6" and the CK 8". I wouldn't worry about it ... it's basically down to the temperament of the fish. If you're lucky the jar isn't an aggressive type and they'll be fine.
What you should do is try introducing some dithers. I have 2 tinfoils that bear the brunt of the aggression in my tank. They often loose scales, but are far too quick for any fish to kill.
Good luck!

will tinfoils help in cleanup for the tank? I would love to get something that will not only give the fish an outlet for aggression, but also clean up krill after my aro. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Yeah for sure. I've even seen them (on a number of occasions) eating sh*t while it's still hanging from another fish's a$$

What size tinfoil barbs should I get? My LFS has what looks like a tinfoil barb with a red tail..Not sure what they are though. Some people have told me to try a gold severum however im not sure how aggressive it would be toward my aro.

Yea sevs arent a good dither fish...Too slow and too mean. I would say atleast some 4" tinfoils would work.

:iagree:
Albino tinfoils are also quite cheap and common (well they are over here). So you can try them too if you like the look. I think they look kinda dead, so I've got the normal ones..

How many should I get? Like 2 or 3? I am going to pick some up tomorrow morning. I cant stand looking at his fins anymore.

That should be fine. I wouldn't be too worried about the fins though. When aros are in a monster comm they usually have ripped fins from the scuffles. These usually don't result in death though..

Atleast 3. That way it distributes the agression equally and tinfoils are schooling fish and do best in groups.....I think

How do you guys feel about a bichir rather then the barbs? I figure a Bichir will do well to clean up after the aro during feeding however im not sure how much aggression he could take from the CK..

I added 5 tin foil barbs to act as dither fish..Only problem is that they think that the Jardini is one of them and school with him! Anywhere he goes they are right there with him. We will see how long that lasts...

just wait until the jardini decide to show them what he is...
the barbs would probably realize that he is NOT one of them...lol...
i currently have silver dollars and looking at their agility, they might also be able to serve as a dither fishes...
