its a 1.5 red ,a mutt , a hybrid aro that can be a mix of green aros and a red ... but it doesnt mean that it cannot be colorful. But definitely not the most colorful out there.

So what above a Banjar?

Banjar masin is a breed that exist in Indo. Here we have both the banjar red & banjar gold. From what I have seen the banjar reds are no more better them 1.5 reds which is unfortunate. When young it does look full of potential but full grown ones exhibit very little coloration. Banjar golds are a cross which seem to at least have better characteristics of the gold traits.

In terms on "grade" for lack of a better word here, RTG's would come after banjars. For the red category, the SRs etc. would be after banjars.

In a way I agree..greens especially wild greens have a place in my heart. Soon there would probably be none left.

I'd also prefer a green over a banjar... f you're going to get a red... then get a red! :headbang2

J, what do you actually like or prefer more??... a red or gold aro? Each individual has their own personal preference of aro.

a green will have some shine a banjar is a dull fish that may have some red when small but it will fade as the fish grows

i had a banjar and it was horrible

Actually..in my books...all strain of Asian Arowanas have their very own unique traits and beauty..

I have seen full adult Banjars with shiny silver body and bright yellowish tail and fins..they look reasonably good as well...

:)

I have to agree that each strain does have it's own unique points. :)

you are right all asian aros are nice but its not worth spending the money on a banjar

buy a green if you have more cash buy a RTG their is nothing in the middle

a banjar is not a step up from a green in my books

Perhaps if the price point is very attractive, it could be a option. That could be the deciding factor. If the differential in price is little then there might not be a point in it. Then again as G8 said, the only Asians available at the moment are banjars.

an aro lives for a long time and get big and i have had a 2ft bangar swimming in my tank and it was just a dull looking fish and most of the greens my freinds were keeping at the time looked alot better

most people i know who brought banjars have all wished they saved the extra money for a RTG

unless you want to spend thousands of $$$s on a aro then you cant go wrong with a RTG

are there things you can do to make a banjar more colorful thou? food? etc.

this banjar looks pretty good to me! :D

I agree that it's not a pretty fish but then again I have choices. Yes I am very well aware aros live a long time too. Like I said I happen to love greens. All I am saying is if the differential in price is a lot, one may op for a banjar. Also base one what G8 is saying, only banjars are available. However, since G8 has indicated that a red is what he is after, then by all means search for one. :)

Yes to a certain extent but it will not be permanent.

the thing you are forgetting is that most pictures you see of asian aros on the net are enhanced with nano lights and even some of the high grade reds you see look nothing like that without the lights if you think the banjar in the pic you posted looks OK i will look real bad without the lights

the point im making about aros living a long time is why rush out and buy it just because thats all thats for sale

if you are going to keep the aro for 7yrs+ aleast make sure you know for sure will turn out nice their is not much of a gamble with a RTG they all turn out fairly nice with just diffrent levels of shine and body shape

Sorry but did the seller state that it is a banjar?

Gr8KarmaSF

yes...comes with a cert.

(and yes i realize that sometimes they are forged, but the seller has been vouched for)

thou i would rather not talk about the sales before this thread gets closed! lol im more interested in the potential of a banjar so that i can deciede whether or not its something that i really want. i do have access to a rtg or green, but have always wanted a red, preferable a chili or blood...the redder the better!

well IMO if its a red you want then dont buy the banjar as the best you can expect from it is to have a bit of red on the fins and thats it

I wouldn't even classify banjars under the red category...

more under the yellow tail and green category...

at adult size they don't even have red finnage
