I bought one last week at Petsmart and it died the next day. I returned him and the next one did the same thing. I have a Leopard Bushfish, Albino Senegal Bichir, and 4 Congo Tetras. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Sorry, I don't know the scientific name or L number for these guys.

ummm did you find a body? what are your tank conditions? you could have a read of this article and see if there is something you might think could have been the problem:

it is usually because of temperature and not enough oxygen is where you get problems but i have found them quite hardy little fish. there may be nothing you did wrong, and you could have a bad batch at your lfs that have internal problems, or very stressed from a recent shipment etc etc.

Generally if a pleco comes to the store, I generally get it still in the bag, or put it on hold, and buy it a week later.

The fish was in shock because your tank didn't 200 ppm of nitrate. LOL

Well...it was in a 20g tank that has a temperature of 79 degrees and is flitered by an Emperor 280. I ended returning it and getting store credit for a plant.

Petsmart...'nuff said!

I know Petsmart and Walmart have bad reps, but they do carry some decent stuff that lives. I bought an Oscar there once that was with me for 2 years before I had to give him up. And I had a small community tank at work that was thriving. I had a mix of cories, neons, and glass cats that lived for a good while until I took off North for a few months. Then the tank went to hell and everything died (no one knew how to take care of it). :(
