Hey all,

So I started a DIY expanding foam background last week for my 55 gallon paludarium. How I did it was:

I bent metal clothing hangers and hung them on the back to act as a backbone for the foam and to also attach weight to to hold the foam down.

Flipped the tank on its back and did the foam. let it sit for about 24 hours.

Now this is where I may have messed up... I did not paint, seal, or silicone the foam from there, I put a peat moss kitty litter mixture on it with more moss on top of that, directly on the foam

It all looked good for a couple of days, then I woke up yesterday and the whole thing had contracted and fell off of the back of the tank.

Any ideas or tips???

Thanks guys and gals!

expanding foam does that. it changes shape once into the water. that's why i think it should only be used for some seams between two pieces of rigid styrofoam or some like that...

I did a background for a 20 gallon using all Great Stuff foam and I won't do it again. It's so bubbly and it was difficult to seal it inside the tank. Next time, I'm carving up styrofoam sheets and sealing them before putting it in the tank
