im finally gettin my little black aro in a week and i have a few questions on how to keep them.
1: Do they jump as much as silvers? I have a canopy with lights, so if i put a glass cover directly over the tank to keep him from hitting the lights, will it block the lights?
2: Is it true that they are the most tame kind of arowana and does anyone have any advice on hand taming them?
3: what foods do you think they like best and are best for them and what temperature do you think they prefer?

1) All arowana jump, it is in their nature. They are built to jump. A piece of clear glass is not going to stop the light, as the light itself has a glass shell.
2)blacks and silvers are some of the most tame. Hand taming them? Just feed them regularly, and they will become tame.
3)I like to use some beefheart mixture, a lot of krill and market shrimp (raw), azoo 9in1 arowana pellets, and have been trying hikari cichlid gold. They definitely like the beefheart mix the best but they also love shrimp. Shrimp makes up a large portion of their diet.

IME, keep your aro comforable by regular feeding, pristine water, and try to avoid sudden movements. When they are comfy they jump less.
I agree with Wyld:)

Is three small feedings a day too much for an aro? some people feed theirs like three times a week, but all my other fish get fed 3 times a day, which would be a problem if theyr in the same tank.

The only problem might be an increase in output, meaning more waterchanges. What else are you feeding?

feeding 3x a day is recomended on young stage of an aro when their metabolism is fast.
however if they reach the 2ft mark ull notice dramatic decrease on their appetit so yeah 3feeding days in a week is normal for ADULT aros. :)
have fun on ur aro! cheers! :)

The food may get eaten by other inhabitants, but an easy solution for the shrimp is a carnivore feeding prong. That way you can be more selective as to who gets the food.

No way..... My 2 ft aro eats just as often and agressively as my smaller aros have.
He will NEVER refuse food.
