acrylic thickness for 4' tall tank

i found a steal of a deal on some 8x4 acrylic sheets 1" thick

BUUTTTTT, is 1" thick enough to use that as a front window?

if so, klee has a new build coming his way !!!! :naughty::naughty:

It all depends on the water hight and what the viewing window size will be. If you are planing on making the viewing window 48" tall with a water hight of 48". Then no way 1" is strong enough. It will bow more then .75" and overtime will cause crazing. Additionally the bow may separate the silicone seal used to waterproof the window.

I have some used 1.5" thick acrylic for sale.

that was my next question lol ... the problem now is that i found out its Optix ...
and i believe Optix is extruded acrylic, not cast cell

so my hopes are dashed, right?

Your right about that, extruded acrylic will not work for aquariums. Its construction process makes it inferior to cell cast.
