What is the best way to care for anenomes? Do they compromise levels?

I'd say you need to do some research of your own so you can pose a less broad question. There are different anemone types. Once you decide which type you want to maintain then you can ask a more specific question.

As far as affecting levels (read as water chemistry parameters)...since anemones are animals, they will have a large affect on levels.

IMO all anemones are way more trouble than they are worth. they are very sensitive, need strong light and good water flow, and target feeding. and no matter how well you care for it, it will live a life a good 10-20 times shorter than if it was left in the wild. it's best for you and the anemone to leave it back at your LFS IMO.

ya my friend is wondering the same.

It depends on the anem. They themselves don't have a large affect on water parameters but, they are for the most part very sensative to water conditions and stability. If you can get a captive reared animal they are much easier to care for than the wild caught ones.

anemones are not that diffucult to keep. hell ive had three anemones since ive had my tank, u just hafta keep on top of water quality just as u would for many other less hardy fish species, yes u hafta target feed, but heck just throw em a silverside every other week and they do great, if the lighting is strong enough u can neglect feeding them even longer. I have three different kinds: a green long tentacle, a true rose, and a carnation or tequila anemone. i love em.

Please PIC those for us all especially me.. also can any anenomes live without Metal halides? could they survive with 2 Compact FLour.? or any other lighting thats cheaper?!

one thing that is key to survival is wen they are first introduced to a tank set them in the sand or rock but after that let them moveo n their own if u put them in the same place and force them they will die

good to know... lets just say were talking about a 55 G... what lighting would be sufficient for anenomes? what lighting would be suggested? and whats the perfect lighting scenario? the reason i ask, is i am wondering if there are any alternatives to the EXPENSIVE HALIDES!!

Here are some pics of my anemones dude the first is the rose and green long tentacle they always seem to stay together the second is my carnation, they arent fully out because i had just turned the lights back on they usually look much better, the twins are about 6 inches across, while the carnation is maybe 3 inches or so.

sorry the pics are so blurry my camera hates taking good pics of the tank for some reason.

and to answer your question about lights i have power compacts, 10k and actinic for color. like i said i feed mine silversides and other fish that dont make the transition from LFS...hehehe. they arent too difficult. juss give em multiple levvels to get to incase the lights is too strong or not strong enough, and normal flourescent will not cut. i know this from beginning experience 8(. GL and be careful with em they truly are one of gods' greatest gifts.

I bought an host anemone a few days ago and brought it home and acclimated it to my tank water. About 15 minutes later I gently laid it down into the tank and within a half an hour it died. I have never had any problem with my clown fish that is in there. Maybe it was sick to begin with. I dont know, maybe I just wasn't meant to have one.

it generaly takes much longer than a half hour for one to die dude, keep in mind they will look real crappy. even if happy when first introduced. u prolly threw away a live anemone. even if dying they show signs of death extremely slow, not in a period of hours but days. and generaly once u start seeing signs its too late. make sure the water is chlorine free and give it another shot, they will look terrible, almost inside out once or twice a day, they arent dying they are juss taking a dump. be careful and keep an eye on them at first wait over night, it takes a while for the toxins they secrete to actually come out of thier bodies anyways, it comes out as they decompose, so introduce, keep an eye on them and give them over night, you will see a difference come the morning.

Excuse me, I am not a DUDE!!! And I know when an animal is alive or dead. There was clear stuff coming from him. And I did take him out and checked him and he was DEAD.
I have done my research on them well enough to know if you take him out and he is just plain mushy he is DEAD!!!!
Never mind, I will get info from my LFS.

my anemones are mushy and are quite healthy(and alive) if one of em were to hold thier shape if i took them out of the water, then i would be alarmed. when they use the bathroom(not sure that fits an animal) they do poop a clear to brownish, thick, sticky fluid. I still think u should have given it a bit more time, i could be worng, im wrong a lot. they will shrivel to almost nuthin several times a day. and look really terrible.
