The only one that I have heard of is to sedate the aro, and clip off the affected membrane.

yup that's the only way to do it. it will not gaurantee it won't curl back. i had a green that kept on getting it.
the sooner you identify and cut the gill the better. remember to sedate the fish and hold it down w/ a towel or something soft and slip proof. even though the fish is sedated, it will still try to move around so hold it down as good as possible. you have to cut slightly before the gill starts curling or as much as possible, but try not cutting the hard part, just the soft part. if the hard part is already curling, it might be too late to fix. if you cut the hard part, you might notice some bleeding. don't panic like i did, just stop cutting that part.
after you cut the gill and throw the fish back in the water, the fish might swim kinda funny like it has a bladder problem, head tilted down and tail floating up. give it a few hours and it will swim normally.
it's really hard to do, hence why i had to perform 3 surgery's in a span of 1 year to get it right. even after the 3rd time, i'm not sure if i cut enough of it for it to grow back to normal. i had to give the fish away to someone responsible and willing to handle the issue.
from what i heard the cause of gill cure is water parameters and tank size.
my green was w/ 7 other aro's in a 240 and all the other aro's were fine, so i'm not sure if those conditions mentioned would cause the gill to cure.
goodluck!

whoa whoa hold the phone!!!
an operation should be your last option
if you catch gill curl early (by paying attention to your damn fish before it gets severe :irked:/just saying ) it can be reversed by correcting water parameters, in other words water changes.

that's true. performing the operation is your last option. just watch if it starts curling at the hard part of the gill.

my cousin's aro has the problem... he's stoopid... I told to keep up with h20 changes and test his water once a month... this guy didn't do a water change and when he did, he did over 50% water change... man, I should have never got him that aro... It's a rare aro too... but o'well, it aint my fish and my money...
