Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and have read some DIY articles about plywood tanks and concrete tanks.
I am wondering if anyone has ever tried cutting a rectangular hole in the side of a metal stock tank and using silicone to put in a viewing window. (Aqrylic or glass)
I know the cut edges would probably rust over time (even with the viewing window on the inside) but i was thinking this would be much easier than building one from scratch and waterproofing it.
Any thoughts or experience?

Metal stock tanks can be toxic to fish long-term, so you would need to line the tank somehow.

hello; there was a long thread on this just a few weeks ago, a search may find it. I believe the consesus was that it is a risky idea with out considerable effort to isolate the galvanized metal from the fish.

The metal could be toxic.
I would put a liquid rubber all in the tank so none of the metal is showing.
Post some pictures of this tank when its done.

One other option is to make a concrete tank with the viewing windows and cover the out side with a metal like cover.
