Ok, so I know there are charts on here and other places that specify thickness, but there are lots of unexplained variables. So Im hoping for some answers please. As a backround on what im planning.
Plywood tank. 1 viewing window. Looking between 300-500 gallons. 36" high and 6-8 feet long.
1. Are the thickness charts for normal float glass or tempered?
2. Can I use thinner tempered glass then normal float glass?
3. What is the thickness requirement difference for acrylic?
4. are the charts assuming bracing is being used?
Thanks guys

I Believe for 36 inches you want 3/4 inch float glass. Bracing and size are already included in the variable for the charts. I wouldn't use tempered. If for some amazing chance something breaks it, the whole piece is gone. Besides float glass is cheaper and getting tempered doesn't allow you to go thinner.

1. It will work for both.
2. No
3. Depends based on the height and length, but you would be looking at roughly 1.25 - 1.5" thick acrylic
4. Yes, especially with acrylic

3/4" glass is what you would need for your tank
