I just purchased a baby silver arowan. He's about 5inches long. I got him on teusday and he still hasnt eatin.
I tried rosy reds. I even dangled one in front of him. He smells it and turns away.
I tossed in a hikari pellet (for cichlids/oscars) He ate it then spit it out??
My next choice is im gonna try crickets, if he loves them thats awsome because i can get 1000 of them for $20 canadian!!
any replys would be great

Give it some time to get used to the tank. It may take a few days before it even acts like it wants to eat.
Forget the feeders:)

Give it some time and it'll happen.
As far as the Hikari pellets are concerned, mine use to take them and spit them out too. I started soaking them for 5 minutes until their soft and he would eat them right up. After a while of doing that, he now takes them right out of the bag and has grown to love them.
Good luck with your new Arow! :headbang2

Crickets are MUCH safer than feeders.
Try to get him on prepared foods still (beefheart, krill, shrimp)
Skip the feeders if unless you can properly quarantine and gutload them

Skip the feeders if unless you can properly quarantine and gutload themthis is true... I would be best to try and wean him onto beefheart and such, as rallysman said, and use feeders only as special treats.

I would try small size crickets.. it worked for me getting my Arow to eat after he went off food for weeks... they see the action and it stimulates them..because they float at the top..if he does not eat.... remove dead crickets and try again..and do not panic because they can be with out food a long time.. but once they start eating again they will eat regular..and then you can go back to trying different things with success.

Careful with the crickets, i gave mine some crickets for a couple days and after that he wouldnt eat anything else but them. I had to starve him for a few days till he would other things. Prepared foods are best IMO even try chicken if you got it around the house, just make sure its not lathered in grease and seasonings.

Since he's a baby, frozen bloodworms would be good also. Fish of all species love em.
