is it normal for a silver aro's lower jaw to extend past its upper jaw? like a bulldog? i've never had a aro larger then 18", but mines lower jaw overlaps his upper jaw by almost is a1/4 inch. is this normal? looks pretty kool cuz his teeth are sticking out too. anyone out there with large aros have this condition? i've heard this is a possible indication of sexual orientation, but i don't know. any info would be greatly appericated.

I have heard that males have an over sized lower jaw for mouth brooding, but I'm not possitive. I'm sure someone with greater knowledge will chime in soon though:D

It is an overbite, which is basically just a deformity that happens. Kind of like drop-eye, it is just luck of the draw if you do, or don't get it.

It's called PLJ or protruding lower jaw. There is no cure know although some profess that "pumping" the aro helps. It's a fairly common problem I would say even among Asian aros.

this to me, is only common on those who keep there aro's in tiny ass tanks. when they throw tantrums n go crazy, there bashin that bottom lip all over the place. my friend down the street has a 26"+ silver aro in a 6'x15"x15" and the lower jaw is beyond bulldog. in my experience, its not normal, and its not a natural born deformity. comes from being housed in small tanks.

untrue. even silvers in ponds gets this.
PLJ is a deformity that no1 can pinpoint whats the cause it.

Nope, not a way to tell male from female. There is no sexual dimorphism in silver aros that is exclusive to males or females, other than the egg laying part.

If that were true then all of my aros would have it. Only the smallest of the 4 has this. It is like drop eye, some will get it, some won't.

PLJ has got nothing to do with either the sex of the aro nor the tank size. It does not just afflict silver, it also happens to Asian aros as well.

PLJ is the same as a human with an overbite. It just happens sometimes.

i notice it more on fish in small tanks, just my experience.
