View Full Version : Loach snack tank!
I bought about 50 ramshorn snails from Plah1831 (name incorrect?) and put them in this 5 gallon to breed. They will be great snacks for my loaches. The tank is coated with eggs already. I am adding calcium to keep them healthy, and feeding algae wafers and the old fish food I have, which you may have seen in another of my threads. Love to keep the loaches happy!
could you feed them dead leaves? or are they not that kind of snail?
I could feed them anything, but the crappy old food was free.

because going out in your backyard for a dead leaf isnt free?
LOL. just wondered as it is autumn
I don't know if any native leaves are harmful, I will stick with the harmful old expired food. I have plenty. LOL

I've been going to my LFS every week and picking out a few dozen snails from their planted system hoping they would multiply faster than my clowns could eat them. Needless to say, they can't. I like your idea!

I do the same thing for my loahes.Canned green beans and wilted spinach really get them growing fast.

Do you have a heater or filter on the 5.5?

if any of my aquarium plants should lose their leaves, I just let them sit in my aquarium, because my RH snail (brig kind) loves eating them. I wouldn't trust dead leaves from outside, though.
Do you have a heater or filter on the 5.5?
I have a whisper 1-3i internal filter, no heater.

I've got a large critter keeper. Do you think I'll be okay if I add a few dozen snails in there with lettuce and stuff for them to eat? Snails have no chance of living in my tank. My loaches are like vultures!

As long as it is enclosed, and you do regular water changes. I added a small internal filter.
Update: I now have hundreds of tiny snails on my tank walls. Many would cringe, but this program is working great. My loaches are happy as clams (snails). LOL
