well I finally got my floor supported for my new 180g tank.. I used
6 pavers (12"x12") $9.00
1 4"x4"x8' $10.00
3 jackposts $42.00
2 2"x4"x8' $15.00

knowing that you won't throw $1400.00 and your floor down the toilet=priceless :grinyes:

Great work, was there a reason you did that, or just being safe?

Dont mean a hijack, but i know ppl will look at that, and say ," i dont have that, OMG" and run out and start building, when they might not have to.

And just so ppl dont get to paranoid, just examine your floor, you can get a good idea if you will have isuues.




Yes wood can bend sag warp, but ussually over long spans. Unless a tank just happened to be placed along one floor joist, and far from any support, dont be.

if thinngs fall off the shelves when you walk acroos the room, maybe you should look before putting a tank in your house. 2x10" joists every 16" and no span over 15 ' without a pillar or wall to spport to ground. If your house shakes alot, you probably dont have this. If you do, built good.

My current house is brand new, built right. I would not fear a large tank anywhere.

Dude I need to reinforce my floor. When I drain my tank the tile rise and make it seems like there is air space. Tank size is 150g. I am too scared to fill it to the top. Can I get jacks like that from HomeDepot? What kind of place would I find those at?

can you look at the floor under your tank area?

Any pics of tank stand floor?

If you can get some pics of the underside, crawlspace basement whatever is directly below tank. And take note of how many joists there are, and how close is the nearest support to the ground.

but yes, you should be able to get leveling jacks pretty easy. Beware, if you do this, do not raise the flor up off of exisiting supports.

Think of it like this. I think the average for a loaded tank is 10 lbs per gallon, for everything. Ona good tank, that should be spread out evenly over the entire footprint of the tank.

So take my tank 72x18 it covers 1296 sq ins. so say 500 sq in. of stand is touching floor.

thats 2lbs per sq in

if 100 gal weighs 1000/500 = 2

My couch weighs 200lbs, and will easily hold 3 200 lbs ppl. thats 800 lbs.

It has 6 legs 3x2" for a total of 36 sq in of floor contact.

the couch has 22.2 lbs per sq in

so if you would be worried about having a three person couch on your floor, worry about a 100 gallon tank.
