St. Paul Mn.
I have room for and wouldn't mind just doing a large stock tank for a first try, but besides my LMB that i cant give away if i tried! I want to grow a big boy! I would also like to stay Mn. native. what would be my best bet for a large river monster from the mississippi or st. croix river? and how and where will I get a small one to watch grow? bounce ideas off me here..

Steveo looks like you got a nice set up! I wondered if 2x4s would be enough to hold the water back, thats a lot of pressure pushing out! I was thinking 2x6 with gussets. any thought? Note: i would do my pond 3x6ish and closer to 3 feet deep, maybe 30" 36 is a bit much.

check out my build in the indoor pond section. its the 1500gal plywood build. No natives but a blue catfish but would give you some ideas regarding construction and costs.

Nice! that is more less what im looking to do.. I may have to PM you about this.

this is just another thing to make my wife and friends wonder what is wrong with me!

Now on a serious note! I do have a 8 month old daughter who will be into everything before long so! Im thinking ill go out to the garage and weld up a steel "jail bars" style cover with hinges and a pad lock, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something were to happen. I dont know what im going to do with my outdoor pond, its kinda scary to think about.

any thought or ideas on child safety for indoor and or outdoor ponds? im on the fence about filling my outdoor pond with rock so its just moving water because i cant see a fool prof way to secure it and still be esthetically sensible to have. I may be over reacting but if need be ill remove the outdoor one all together. its just not worth it. you can see my out door pond in the pond threads.

Just put up a fence around the outdoor pond rather than rip it out; you can do that for next to nothing yet the fence will be sturdy enough to be safe. As for the indoor pond, just make it so that she can't climb in, so you could just make it tall or put a barrier of some sort around the edge rather than on top thereby not blocking your view of the pond while keeping it safe.

wiggles you obviously dont have kids.. anything short of prison walls wont keep kids out of whatever they are not supposed to be in, second I wont take a chance of losing my daughter just so I can have my pond, im not that selfish. I think a temporary filling of the pond (make it a garden) and a cages indoor pond will suit my needs. I just have to build it right the first time!
