Have you ever seen a school of 40 or 50? When you do, you'll know.

dont really like them. they are a good personality but there are other loaches i prefer, but i think plecos are better bottom dwellers anyway

I started out just buying a small group of 3 because I had a bad snail problem. I don't know what they did to me, but I ended up ordering a group of 30 more. I have since picked up several others with oddball patterns. I am looking at trading some of my fronts and other fish that I like just to be able to pick up more loaches. I love to watch the activity of my 180 gallon tank.

It's not for everybody.

Clown loaches are amazing fish. They've got a number of things going for them as a species. First, they are readily available and fairly inexpensive. Second, they are very active and attractive fish. Third, there is no limit to the uniqueness per fish ie short bodies, odd patterns, etc. Its like collecting comic books. Everyone is after that wild patterened clown. I've got 7 myself and want to at least double that number in the next few weeks! I'm an addict.

I have considered the possibility that loches aren't for everybody, then I remembered I don't care about everybody. DON'T BUY LOACHES, MORE FOR ME! LOL

That's what I am thinking, too. It's already hard enough to find clown loaches around here. :nilly:

I would be scared that the cray fish might get a hold of the loaches when they are sleeping.

Loaches just look cool, they have good colors, nice stripes, funny schooling and sleeping behavior and can grow into good monster sizes. You have to also remember MFK's influence on fishy trends(datnoids, pbass, bichirs, loaches), was it just me or were clown loaches like the official MFK fish of OCtober 2006? This would be appropriate considering they are Halloween colored!

Loaches are also desirable as community fish and usually won't rip your other fish apart.
Certain botias are an exception.

My cray killed some very small ones while they were sleeping, but leaves most of them alone.

8 inch gar. it wouldnt be a great idea if i put 2-3 inch loaches in with spotter gar would it ? arent they quick enough? What if i put some hiding spaces? like pcv pipes? or am i risking gar food ?:WHOA:

Loaches in general would be gar food. When loaches sleep, they often lay on their sides and look dead. Easy pickins' for a pred.

I am guilty of being addicted to Clown Loaches. I have seven of them in a 75 gal. tank....The smallest one is just under 2" and the largest one is just under 6". Their tankmates include five South American Cichlids, a Leopard Sailfin Pleco, and a Synodontis Eupterus....And coming soon (Hopefully) a Synodontis Angelicus!!
