I am starting a 55 for my buttikoferi.he is currently 8 inches.I want to use sand but i have a concern.would sand get stirred up if i had filters like two ac 200 filters and a magnum 250.I think its alot of filteration for a 55.That would be 650 gallons per hour.should i use black sand. to make colors stand out.

Just take the intake extentions off and take in the water from 3 inches below the surface. Use whatever sand you like, it is your tank!

Not sure about those filters you mentioned, but I have a 55 using an Eheim 2028, which is rated for like 160 gallons or so, and the intake is close to the sand and does not disturb it. What does happen, however, is the spray bar is so powerful that it basically sprays from the back of the tank to the front against the glass, and the force traveling down the front of the glass blows sand everywhere. So i have to point the spray bar somewhat upwards and then turn down the filter a bit.

how much do those Eheim 2028 run on average (proce wise.)I would love to use a canister.are the magnum 250 pretty nice.

My eheim 2028 was about 225 which included shipping and it was full of media.

Check ebay or www.superfishstore.com, i got mine on ebay, but the site has some good deals too.
