so with everybody in the MLB doing it I recently heard that they make steroids for fish. I recieved this information from a very knowledgeable and trusted source that is known to joke around a bit. Has anyone else heard of this and is it bad for your fish...

naw dude i got a firemoth that hangs with my dovii and devils because of the stuff. i bought him injected from a friend, and the thing is developing a serious nuchal hump. he has some serious color as well and always seems to be in spawning mode. he is pushing a good 8" now and has bred with my female festae and killed my big red tiger mota. he is definitely thick. you can see muscles bulging from his caudal and pectoral areas. youd swear it was a flower horn but nope. just an average everyday firemouth pumped on loads of testosterone. mean azz fish. ...jk...haha

I believe fish steroids were intended for intense growth as a food source. Such as Tilapias on a fish farm.
It is the same practice KFC uses with their 6 winged chickens.
I don't think it is used in the ornamental fish trade, I would imagine there are restrictions.

does any one know where to get some? I am interested in gettin some for my flowerhorn his hump is sooo small. what are the steroids supposed to do to the fish? make them more agressive? if they enhance growth I would definately be intersted but this is the first time I ever heard about steroid in fish. I heard of people putting silicone in the hump of flowerhorns but thats about it.

I've always heard stories about fish being juiced before importing so their colors are brighter/they grow faster/etc.

isnt that the company Bonds and Canseco and McGuire were getin their dope from. lets see if we can get them to manufacture some synthetic testosterone for fish.
I have also read about a Steroid based pellet food that is being used in grow-out facilitys.
If you go to your local PetSmart and see some amazing Peacock cichlids with BRIGHT coloration, this could be one of them. Most people know they don't show that kind of coloration until they are adults. However, some fish when fed these steroid pumped foods, they will show adult coloration far before they normally would.
I don't know how true this is.. I have also heard about a chemical you add to the water, but I don't know about that either..

well what if they were used properly. say you have a 4 yr old fish in perfect health showing full color before you juice him up. what could they produce then. i would let the young fish develop into a full grown adult and THEN i would let the experiment begin. i bet you some of those fh's from the orient that are just huge and brutal looking have been juiced. i would love to try it out on a dovii at around the 12" mark and see where it would lead too. i know it would make them more aggressive. find out for me where to get those pellets miles. you would probably have the contacts to find out.
my red tail is juiced to the gills.
literally. :D
