IS THERE ANY TRICKS THAT CAN ASSIST IN BREEDING FLOWERHORNS? I HAVE BRED THEM A FEW TIMES BUT LATELY I HAVE HAD NO LUCK AT HAVING THE MALE FERTILIZE THE EGGS. ITS BEEN FRUSTRATING. ANY TIPS WILL BE APPRECIATED.

I had a similar problem with my male Flowerhorn not breading successfully. I do not know why the male never entered the pot while the eggs were being laid. Following several failed attempts I shifted the open end of the pot into the slow moving return filter water flow. The female laid her eggs now the fourth time and again the male did not enter the pot. Most of the eggs turned white and developed fungus. Then at night with a flashlight I noticed a few wigglers inside the pot on the bottom at the rear. They were mixed in with sand and other debris. There may have been wigglers in the past which remained un-noticed. I salvaged 200 or so from this batch and a similar number from two subsequent batches of eggs. The female set about 5,000 eggs but each time however I was only able to locate a few hundred alive. The male must have deposited sperm in the water and a small number obviously reached the eggs.

what size tank do you have them in? I have had flowerhorns breed on me alot of times. I just had rocks on the bottom and they lay them and the male fertilzes them. its pretty hard not to breed them because I had this one pair that would breed almost every other week its was crazy. eventually I had to get rid of them because they were beating up all my arowanas because their breeding mood and stuff. try to re arrange your tank and do a big water change but not so big.

I HAVE A 55 BREEDER TANK, BUT THEY USUALLY ARE IN A 120 COMMUNITY THAT HAS A FEW FLOWERHORNS IN IT. WATER CHANGES USUALLY SET THE TWO OFF, BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO FERTILIZATION TO DATE. ITS LIKE IT TAKES TOO LONG AND THE MALE LOSES INTEREST. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
