Feeder Fish
MFK Member
Hi all,

Several weeks ago we purchased a Jardini Aro, and last thursday the aro was put in our tank measuring 9" with all the tank mates and so far so good he seems perfectly happy with them.

He is very happy eating frozen mussel, Bloodworm, Artemia, Live Shrimp & Feeders.

Which fish make the best feeders.

To tell you th truth i wouldnt feed him feeders. Its just not the worth Everything... i have to run out and buy the food first off and then to top it off the only real feeders that would be sufficient size for ur aro would be a medium cornet goldfish which are dirty and gross and not good for your fish.
Gold fish are a carp, carp are the junk fish of the fish world. And they can transfer diseases and the only way to ensure he wont make ur prized aro sick is to put them in solitary lock down for a couple of weeks and thats MORE work.

MYYYYY solution for my aro and even bass is.......TA DAAAA prepared foods.
1.MORE convenient
2.MORE healthy
3.MORE cheep.... and there are a variety of foods designed to have color enhancers and dietary supplements such as kazoo aro feed, Hikari carnivor sticks DESIGNED for surface feeding carnivors.
4.It makes your fish a better companion IMO because you can feed him out of your hand and he will get used to your hands... and becomes accustum to your company. Soon you may even pet him gently as long as hes healthy.

There is no need to use feeder fish. The diet you have, without the feeders, should be fine. Nice aro and good luck.

Well the feeders are just in their for the Aba Aba, unfortunately the aro takes a fancy to them as well.

typical brainwashed posts.

the truth is,

feeder are excellent food for the good health of your jardini, always quarintine feeder fish for at least 4 weeks, and bulk them up to boost there nutrition quality. Live food if done right suprasses any pellet or frozen food. Frozen food sucks as a staple, to much is altered or destroyed in the freezing and defrosting process.

what makes them junk fish? elaborate on this please.

Nice bro ... a jar and an aba aba! What a combo :headbang2

I also have a jar in a community with various other predatory fish. I have nothing against feeders' nutritional value, but I worry about them making the fish more aggressive and seeing the smaller fish in the tank as a source of food. That said, I do feed other live food like crickets, mealworms and frogs, as well as a variety of prepared foods.

Good luck!

The carp family is generally a dirty fish. They are really no good to eat.... AT ALL they are really tough fleshed and eat gross things. In my epirience gold fish in general are junky. They are the real only fish known to eat droppings of other fish, and highten the amonnia in a fish tank. When feeding live fish ANYONE will tell you that fat heads are better than goldfish.

Dont get me wrong i don t dislike carp, i love catching them... I have just grown up learning form family fisherman, and LFS owners and marine biologists how dirty carp are.

It 's funny how well humans do on frozen and cooked food, not sure why you would think these foods would "suck" for your fish.

And by doing it right you mean quarantining the feeders and treating them with different types of chemicals to rid them of the parasites that they possibly have is your idea of healthy then go for it.

I personally would rather lose some nutrients than add chemicals or parasites.

Oh, but don't listen to me I am brainwashed.
