At the petstore yesterday and they had a nice fish. It is some kind of black piranha but I cant pinpoint wich one. It has a very high back. First one Ive seen in person and I love it. Not shy at all. They got him in a 10 gallon and he will swim right up to your finger. They only have him labled as a Black pirahna just like they have everything else that isnt a red belly. He is about 3-4 inches long. Anyway my question is they want 35 dollars for him. Is that a good price? Also how long could I keep him in a 10 gallon. I have a 55 gallon but I got my reds in there. Could I keep him in my 10 gallon for about a month till i upgrade? Or is that to small? Please let me know ASAP! thanks guys
35 bucks doesnt seem like its too much depends on were u live and supply and demand
a 10 gallon is to small but if its for a short time it might work

assuming your 10g is cycled, that should work fine. If your 10g is not cycled, you will need to buy an ammonia test kit and test the water twice a day to tell when another water change is due.
About a month? should be okay if, like p45 says the tank is cycled or at least you are using an established filter. The price really flucuates on where you are. Here near Portland, Or. I would call it a bit high but not to bad. 2 1/2"ers were $20 yesterday at a lfs. Serrasalmus rhombeus.

One month seems cool, thou keep an eye on him to see if he is stressed out. The price sounds good, depending on your area demand.

A month would be fine, keep it fed and the tank clean until ready to move it

Guppy your from salem sweet...Im from Portland, infact i am a police officer in Downtown Portland.... Good to see anouther Oregonite around. About the fish if you have alot of knowledge on paranha and know for sure its a paranha buy it but if your not sure find out first. Ten Gallon, better hurry on that upgrade depending on what size he is now they are dirty fish, a small tank makes for a very dirty tank ive been told...

$35 is a good price, being a finger chaser..that'd be priceless. If you got him in a 10 gallon, you'd have to upgrade to something bigger at least a 40 gallon if he's 3-4 inches.

bigger is better, but a 3-4 incher is fine in a 10 for a short time, and is a great price, go for it, the bigger the tank the better, but get ready for the fish to not be as agg. in a larger tank and take time to get used to it before it acts its normal self

Blacks below 8-10 inches are white or silver with black spots and do not usually have a red eye, every one i know was or is very shy below 8-10 inch, 10 inch is the magic number they begin 2 darken get a red eye and take almost no interest in human activity. the ods are it is not a black but a spilo but blacks are so hard 2 identify below 10 inches as i found out 2 my expense , have owed 4 other 'blacks' turned out 2 b two spilos a eigenmanni and an as yet unidentified! the last fish now owned by friend is 5 yrs old and six inches long ! chases finger all day long. The way 2 get around other species posing as blacks is 2 buy big as poss or study hard . but remember small blacks are not black or even dark.
