Ok, just seeking a little assistance, from all and any Jag owners...... First off I've kept aquatic buddies for 17 years, had a juvinille Jag several years ago had him for 6 years he was enormous a killer and ate everything in the tank dry, live, etc. from the day I bought him. I bought a tiny Juvinille Jag 8 months ago that I'm 99% is a female that only eats meaty foods, and won;t touch pellets or sticks at all. Now for the real issue, just bought 4 new juives (going to weed out the best, and send the rest packing) 3/4" these suckers are the nippiest juvies I've ever had. I procured them from Petsmart, for the specific reason is they feed them pellets. I have had these boys for 4 days now, and have tired Cichlid-Gold baby pellets, and sinking Thera-a pellets, they go after them a bit but end up spitting them out. How can I get these damned Jags to eat pellets as their staple? I've never had cichlid not accept pellets or anything else for that matter, and I've had 60-80 cichlids in my day.....I've heard of the garlic extract deal, but the Thera-a already ahve garlic in them.... Any help would be appreciated.....

how many days have you offered the pellets, and how many different kinds?

I've had the best luck with omega1, but they should take anything. I had some other ciclids do the same thing but eventually they gave in and ate them

You Can try HBH Super soft food brand ther are a couple of varieties I use HBH super soft with Krill my jag loves it that is pretty much all I feed all of of my fish even my plecos and catfish tear it up. It has similar nutritional values as NLS but it is a soft pellet food. I supplement with some live and some frozen a couple of times a month.

I purchased a wildcaught Jag from Rapps about a month ago and was told it was pellet trained. I'm still not 100% sure of the sex of the fish, but its supposed to be a male.

Here is the weirdest thing of all. I had some Hikari Cichlid Gold medium pellets that were still quite fresh and he would not eat them.

Yes they were small for his mouth but I didn't think it would matter, after all my koi seem to like smaller pellets then larger ones even though it takes more work to get there fill.

Well when I offered the medium pellet my Jag would spit them out. Pellet-trained?! :nilly:

I went out and purchased the LARGE Hikari Gold and he gobbled them up..

The same exact formula only a larger sized pellet  so maybe they like larger items? I'm still new at keeping jags and this is my 1st jag but so far I've come to the conclusion atleast with THIS fish that it likes larger items.
