It's usually never really worth it. Pool filters aren't designed to take the biomass that exists in a living system. Usually they're good for bulk removal from a chlorine sterilized system. Pool filters usually incorporate pumps that use many times more electricity than aquarium pumps and the pool pumps will use even greater amounts of power under the additional filtering load of a living system.
Thanks Man.......Wasn't sure, something I had heard once or twice.

I met a guy that used one on his 700 gallon African cichlid tank. I personally wouldn't do it, but it was working for him. A w/d would be so much better.
Pool filters do not really offer the biological filtration of other filters.
As said, they are used more for mechanical filtration of bulk stuff.
I was told they were "converted" not really sure what that means ? So I fig'd I'd ask around here .
Thanks for The Replys,
James.

It could work if you used it for solids removal and ran a separate system for the biofilter.
