View Full Version : Puffer Appreciation Day!

Tonight I was feeling alittle troubled before the Leaf game because I have a twelve page paper to write on Kant's theory that it is always wrong to lie...So i went to my basement to check out my various fish, and to no suprise my good pal Gizmo the Fahaka came eagerly up in a hurry to greet me swishing the water at the top of the tank from side to side. He is now roughly six to seven inches and is unusually active for a puffer. Why i created this post is because, today i realized how great it is to keep a puffer. Puffers are truely more than just another fish. So for all you Puffer keepers who feel the same way, do a favour for all those who don't keep puffers and proudly post a picture of you little guy (or big guy for that matter). I will post more recent photos soon but i'll start this off with some that were taken about a month ago:headbang2

Nice looking Fahaka! You are lucky with his activeness, the only two Fahakas i have seen in person have both been inactive and resting most of the time.
However my dwarf puffers were all fantastic little characters!
Mbu are next on my list of puffers to own in the future!

My Figure 8s are also very active and very comical. Sadly, they won't stay still for a photo op. Your Fahaka looks awesome!

Ummm...you should never keep two in the same tank. This is a huge mistake. Separate ASAP...

i only want one of the fahakas, but they are like 2 cms or 3, lol and i'll keep the less agressive and sell the other, but they are still too small to hurt anything...;)
How About That

Hey guys, sorry for being ignorant but do puffers actually 'puff' up? I don't think I've ever seen a ballooned up puffer. Does anybody have any pics?

I keep a Garra with my fahaka. He's still alive more by luck than judgement...

Carinotetraodon salivator male, one of the first imports into the UK (Alongside Hilly's). I also have a camera shy female.

Colomesus asellus, South American Puffer.
I also have a male and female Carinotetraodon borneensis, who have their own tank, and a figure 8 puffer.
I'm always keen for any rare puffers people might have to offer in the UK. If you've got one, get in touch ;)

Great looking puffers.... the more i mess with them the more I like them. :naughty:
hey hilly that abei is really nice. how much did u pay for it? i think i saw one at some random lfs but didnt pick it upcuz it didnt look so healthy
I paid £18 for him but i've seen them for around £7
is that top species a dwarf species...if not how big do they get
They get to around 2", aggressive little sods though, he killed the female after 10 days of peace. They are nice looking little puffers though.
As Fellas female is a bit camera shy here is a pic of my deceased female C. Salivator
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f127/hilly666/TPF/DSC00233.jpg
Not so much camera shy more too quick to get in focus. I found her very inquisitive and much more intelligent than the male.
