Umm, so in about the last week my apple snails have started to breed, at first I was a little excited and it was cool to watch the female lay the eggs but now 6 batches of eggs later its getting rediculous. But my question is, at what point are the offspring going to start breeding themselves, and if I cant sell/give them away of them before hand is their a way that i can encourage them NOT to mate?

I don't think you can keep them from breeding but you don't have to let the eggs hatch out.

I would be interested in a lot of them...... I keep saying I'm going to set up a 120 with nothing but apple snails.

I love snails and have about 10 in my tank. I've had them for almost 2 years and they have never ever bred. I wish they would though.

Ditto. Since the eggs are above the water level, you won't even get wet hands :D I had breeding apples myself, it's fun to watch. And I don't think the babies will reproduce anytime soon. How big are they now?

Congrats!

800 is an even number.... if you get rid of any then get rid of 300 so you have a nice even 500.

As mentioned earlier...you can prevent the snails from hatching, but you may not be able to prevent them from laying eggs.

it wouldnt take long before that 120 gets ovewhelmed. I brought home 2-4 pieces of apple snails to my pond when i was a kid and didnt take 4 mos for the population to hit hundreds. Its cool watching them at night though.. they come out of the water to lay eggs.

hey all. i'm gooda's girlfriend. He's gone for a while and I'm taking care of all his fish and snails. I got rid of some of the apple snails to a LFS in Denver, but the drive isn't worth the fish credit they gave me. I've still got quite a few, they are about quater sized now. Let me know if anyone wants some. send me a pm and we'll figure out the details. I'm trying to get rid of them becuase of the bio overload in the tank now.

If I stay out to late playing cards or don't do the dishes or comment on ass size then it becomes impossible for me to mate.
