I don't know why, but I've seen them for sale around here in So Cal at a few places now and they label them as "Sea Bass." But my question is...Are they Freshwater, Brackish, or one of those fish that will eventually need to be in Saltwater?

They are found in fw,bw and sw.... but in the trade they are pretty much only kept in fresh

"sea bass" is just a common(in this case, not so common) name, which doesn't mean any thing...

If you're going to try keeping them in freshwater, the tank must be well-established and have pristine conditions. These fish can fold quickly, from retained urea, in freshwater if the parameters drop just a bit. I've had better success keeping these fish in light brackish conditions.
