To my understanding the dwarf snakes are channa gachua and channa orientalis.

How big do they both usually get in aquaria? And how aggressive are they? Active?

I know that the bleheri is meant to be the least aggressive SH out there, but I don't know about gachua and orientalis.

Cheers,
JR

orintalis is suposed to max at or yunder 4 to 6 inchs. Channa gachuas max at aprox 9 to 10 inchs . Niether is real aggressive. I kept my gachua in comunity settings with bichirs and cichlids with no problems .

The one I had for a long time seemed to be pretty skiddish till he really wanted to snack on some Escondido babies. That only got him to get his hands dirty a couple times....other than that he was just always peeking out of his log.

I have a group of 9 gachuas in a 55 gal. They all seem to get along fine and are pushing 6 inches. But I also keep thme very well fed so fighting may occur if food is limited.

gachua.....and Iheartfishies is right!!! He better have a home in a nice deep tank or you better tinfoil any holes in the hooding or they'll be on the carpet.... My roomate loved them but he only managed to keep one out of a batch of 5.

I am going to have a go at breeding some Channa sp. Assam. I believe these guys only get to 4-5". Waiting for my supplier to get them in. Another really small SH is Bleheri which is another 5-6"er.

i kept gachuas and bleheri before....

bleheri are very aggressive w the same species...

but they are undoubtable the most vibrantly colored. Have never seen any above 7 inches.

Easy feeders and will do well in even a simple bowl of water.

I knew a guy back in Michigan that grew his 2 inch long fry to full size, 8 inches or so, in less than a year and had them breeding. Not quite as fast as the redlines, but by no means slow either.

Gachua is a good fish, a batch will soon start to fight til they kill off the weak and
pair up, if kept in a good evironment. I have a world record size at 11 1/4" she's a big girl. Most grow to around 8".

When they pair up, all hell breaks loose for other weaker fish. If you don't think
they are agressive, then you don't have a pair. Mine have spawned a few times
and should get it right in the next few weeks :naughty: .

How about some dwarf 5 stripes? I have a friend with a breeding pair, so you Maryland peeps will be in luck soon.

yes had a few love them even had them bread in a community tank dwarf snakeheads grow to about 15-20 cm max Try something like a Channa Bleheri (20cm max)or Channa Gachua (15cm max)not as aggressive as the big boys, but tankmates should be quite big as cant fit in the mouth.
