i prefere baitcasters for surf and larger fish (better drags and cast ALOT furthur) but id use a spinner for just about any freshwater application. they are better with light line (2-8lb) and excell in casting light baits (under 1oz) heaviest spinner i own is a 20# set-up and heaviest convench is an 80lb set-up.

depemd on application, i prefere round baitcasters but a spinner is my go to rig....if that makes sence.

I fish with em' all! Every reel has it's on situation. Usually have atleast 8 rigged reels on boat from light spinning ( favorite spinners are Diawa SS and shimano stradic ) Baitcaster just bought a Diawa Millionaire Luna which blows my Shimano calcuttas away ! Attaching pics of just one of my rod carosels. Have over 30 top quality rods and reels ohh I guess you can tell I like to fish!!! Rods range from Loomis, lamiglass, St. Croix, shimnao, Diawa etc...

Nice rigs. I used to be a Long Islander and we needed different rigs for when the hitters changed. We'd hit a run of stripers, then blues, then porgies, etc. Sometimes, we'd switch to bottom (to take a nap) and try for flounders.

way to drop some big names lol, nice stuff. i hate shimano spinning reels, especially stratics, their made for freshwater and crap out after a couple years. penn, diawa, okuma, quantum are my choices.

oddball, im confused, why did you post a pic of a penn international and call it an "international baitcaster"???????? you made it seem like it was a classification of reels. am i missing somthing? a penn international is a type of baitcaster.

All I did was cut the pic from the Penn on-line catalog.

Then, post the pics. I only grabbed pics of a few of the reels I use on my rigs.

Here's one I got as a gag gift. It's a yo yo reel for using when you don't have a fishing pole. Just unwind some line from the spring-loaded reel, throw the hook, bait, and line in the water, and set the spring release. Tie the reel to a branch or fence and return home. The reel spring sets the hook in the event of a nibble. When you come back, hopefully, there's a fish on the line.

Since this is ]V[FK, it's time to break out the 150 TON fishing winch:

They can't keep the $2 yoyo reels on the shelves here. People buy them by the case for setting trot lines for catfish. They sell tons along with cane poles (cane pole users are not required to have a fishing license in MS) and redneck catfish soap.

Nice to see Oddball getting into the fishing side of things;) . As said before depends on the application like so many of you on here I have rods and reels coming out of my ears, my fish room was my garage now its 40% tackle store and 60 % fish room. The best reels I have ever owned for carp / pike/ catfish fishing are my daiwa infinity this is the longest serving reel I have owned 3 years in total front drag smooth as silk bait runner huge capacity for line I love these reels with a passion :D and will trance any Shimano of its type.

Don't mean to get off topic but some of you guys seem to have homemade/custom rods:headbang2 ?

Xiao

for most situations, baitcasting. The biggest fish I ever caught though was landed on a thick branch from a willow tree with a piece of 10 lb mono tied to it (medium-ish channel lake trout).

I use a push button spinner for most application's for easy use less frustration :nilly: when all the line is contained this is important because every fishing trip i do the first thing we catch is a buuuzzzzzzzz:hypnotize .I do break out the big baitcasters when i find those striped bass i love:drool: catching those big fish i have a rhino baitcast and a rhino spinner i think that is my favorite brand.:grinno:

I tend to have trouble getting the baitcast to work good. I'd rather take spincast even though it nots up some times.
