My oscars have laid eggs once but ate they ate their own eggs. They are at it again and will probably lay more. The tank always builds up the green stuff (too close to window) and i want to add an algae eater, will it eat the eggs if the parents don't?

Well I got an 8" Pleco and my 3"-4" Convicts handle him no problem.

well my flowerhorn bred and when the eggs hatched the left over sticky stuff on the rock which had the eggs on them my pleco sucked all over it till it wss clean. I'm pretty sure the will eat them. don;t take that chance just remove the pleco for aehile to a temp tank.

Affirm. Oscars are relatively a panzi from all the things I've kept or kept with them. I do however say no need to remove the pleco, they'll take care of him. And even if he takes a couple hard shots it'll be no time for healing on him if need be. Just leave it all alone!! :)

i once had a pair of oscars when younger. the male was a good 13 to 14' and the female close behind. i LOVED these fish , but i had them in a 125 and i couldnt put anything with an attitude in there or the female would just get brutalized. i tried a 5" texas and the male kept him busy for a while, but in a week oe=r so he ended up trying to jack the female. so after i removed him, i got a 6" green terror. same situation. eventually i got an RTc and decided that as soon as he was big enough to not be eaten hed go in with the oscars. well after 4 months he was 14" and mean as hell. so one night i hear splashing all over the place in my tank. well the oscars had finally laid eggs and the phuckin red tail attempted to eat the eggs. well apparently the female met her match again. when the lights came on the male was guarding the eggs and the female was hanging out the rtc's mouth. he eventually let go of her head, but it did take its toll on her. if i wouldnt have beat him with a net she would probably have died. the rtc was gone the next day, and then i decided like a week later that the oscars would just be better off with someone who didnt like mean fish. oscars are cool. i will own some again one day. but not till i decide that im ok with non aggressive species.
