Ghost Carp
it's a varient of the mirror & common it gets it's name because of the platinum colouration.

Koi Carp
well we all know how to tell a Koi apart, it's abundance of colour in some fish and the patchie look is what makes a Koi stand out from all the others.

Crucian Carp
the smallest of the carp family grows to about 4 or 5 lb and is more of a golden colour

Who is eligible for capture? The Koi or teh people that released them? I say capture the idiots, and place them in a non-native environment, such as jail.

Its funny you mention that the Crucian Carp that Dan just put on the list is not one of the King Carp but is becoming one of the hardest and rarest fish to fined in its pure form. The problem “GOLDFISH!” Goldfish get into the wild by escaping from ponds during floods; being released illegally or accidentally stocked by fishery managers. The Environmental Agency has revealed that the ornamental fish are not only competing for food and living space, but are mating with Crucian carp. Their hybrid offspring are subsequently causing further competitive problems. Native Crucian carp could be wiped-out as a result I have caught some very strange fan tailed things in the past and have been told by the Bailiff that’s a Crucian “like heck it is”

the pic is of a crucians that has mated with the koi carp in a lake and unded up with this fat boy at just under 5lb good fun to catch and a nice fish but not doing any good for the Crucian race.

It's quite common here in Asia & is a source of food. I must say besides being a all right fishing fish, it's not bad eating too if one knows how to prepare it.

I live in the U.S. all the carp we have here are invasive, truthfully...I don't want them around but I do like carp and their relatives all the same. We do have suckers though, they are pretty "carp-like" I guess, despite being from a different family. I like the Crucian carp, would not mind owning one of those some day, till then goldfish will do.

Don’t take the gibes about the bow fishing to bad you will get plenty more it’s an English thing;) Dan and I don’t have the joys of Bass fishing like you do :( but as you probably know Europeans take Carp fishing very seriously. But a good few Americans and Canadians are getting into it now.

:D that I do! lol

You guys get some great pike fishing over there too! Do you know of a company called Pike Master Lures? I talk with those guys weekly and they buy a lot of our products.

stotty

No I don’t know of Pike Master Lures but they are probable a sub company to one of the bigger ones. But yes we do like our pike fishing when winter comes a lot of Carp anglers switch to pike I love pike fishing but the Carp fishing is No. 1 for me. The other thing we use a lot of dead baits for our pike fishing as lure fishing is not allowed on a lot of lakes with fear of hooking a carp in the side. My mate was in France last year Lure fishing for Zander in the winter he hooked a 41lb carp in the tail. That rod has never been the same:irked: .

I know you would have shot it :naughty:

Pike Master's is there own company. They are in the netherlands... thats probably why you haven't heard of them...

Ya zander seem like a neat fish! Just like our walleye! There is a pretty good population of Zander in one of the Dakotas... another great idea by the DNR! lol

Do you guys keep scales as trophies on carp... or what do you do with them? Is there mounting over there?

When people... cough.. cough.. shoot buffalo.. cough.. here, they dig the "rock" outta their head for a trophy... I have seen some the size of golf balls! lol

stotty

The only thing English people mount are the partners:D . Seriously people do stuff fish but the bulk of anglers in the UK take a Trophy shots with a camera I have albums of fish at home, we like to put them back for some one ells to enjoy the fight. Some thing like this.

As for shooting I have no problem with it I do it my self. I have a gun or 2

Buffalo
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y177/fishrmann2/04_lent_buffalo_a.jpg

WHY ?

did you eat that fish ? there's got to be a reason you killed that good animal !

also you mentioned in another thread that DNR allow you to keep the population down, well over here in the UK we have managed to control them with out shooting bolts through them by building fisherys which hold all carp found in rivers and yes they still reprodeuce in the fisherys and how we control that is by adding some natural predators such as Pike, Zander, perch and catfish they keep the population down not blokes with bows.
