I have a pair of Kitumba fronts in the 180 with the large sunshine oscars and foot+ long red bay snooks. Never had a problem between the different species. I keep that tank on the alkaline pH side since the SA species can tolerate it. The fronts are nearly matching the growth rates of the SA cichlids. I suspect that's due to the large water changes twice a week combined with Immunovital/Vita-Chem supplements and VHP (very high protein) foods. I started the VHP mainly for the Os because I want to break the "book" size for oscars. But, everyone else in the tank likes it so I figure "what the hell". It's only $. Plus, everything is growing like weeds in that tank.

I don't know how they survive the trip but my LFS gets them in at under 1". They are fragile at this stage. Wish me luck! I brought two home today! I will post pictures soon.

I have a wc moba colony (3m/6f), 6 F1's @ 14 mos, 2 F1's @ 4 mos and 10 F1 fry @ 1" in a 180g Oceanic. Other tankmates include 3 bn plecos, 1 african leopard eel and 1 orange-spotted eel.

Yeah I have 6 of them. A far cry from monsters, but they will get there.

i like growing them up myself.. mine were your size about 1.5 years ago and now some are 7-8 inches..fronts do grow slow but when they have their growth spurts they make up for lost time.. This is a pic of a couple of them in april 2006 and now last nights picture:D

some really great looking fish... how many do you have? what types? breeding? how many tanks...

Oh and if they breed.. YES THEY DO.. In the last year I have gotten.. over 1100 fry from my frontosa alone.. I also breed tropheous and a few other fish..

They didnt really want to coopperate but I got a few shots of my fronts (4 total) but 2 kept hiding so I did what I could :D a few a blurry but eh..

They have turned into a nice community now.
Nine in total in a 150 UK gallon tank. These are the ones that came out for pictures.
Filtration is by 1 Aqua one Aquis 1250
and 1 Aqua one aquis 2250-UVC

The two males are the top are about 9inches long. They get on well together although the darker one is the dominant male so far.

I only have one :screwy: and it's easy to tell what it is.

Sorry for the terrible pics. It did have a couple splits in the dorsal fin when I got it. The Tiger O bugged it a little, but it seems fine now and the red O didn't mess with it at all. Hopefully, it will grow quickly enough for it to stay where it is. The Tiger O will be gone if it starts picking on it again. I know I'm going against the rules only having one in a SA and poly tank. I'll try to get a better pic later. It swims around quite a bit and so far, is eating sinking carnivore pellets.

Edit: Oh, yeah, it's about 5 inches.

I was doing some work on the tank to prepare for a tank showing on this coming Monday for my local fish clubs Tank competition. It still needs a few more hours of work before it's ready, but I can at least sleep tonight. This was just a quick snapshot, which I needed to add 110Watts of Compact fluorescent to the tank to take the photo. After the judging I'll take some good photos with more natural lighting. The tank is naturally dim and there is a centered 36" light across a 72" tank, so the sides have nice light falloff and shadows which the WC frontosa prefer.

I have Zaire FO,F1 Kitumba,Kampampa, Mobo, Twimbe(mis spell). Samazi, Nangu, Ikola, Burundi.
Nangu are in a 350 gallon setup, the rest are in 75-125 gallon tanks.
We have about 350 tanks and about 14,000 gallons of water.

Well got my two new fronts, they were abit smaller then I was hoping but they are healthy and happy so all is good:) My "rescued" front seems to take no interest in the new additions but Iam sure time will work that all out. The pictures really doesnt show it but the front I "rescued" is sooo much darker then the new additions I mean there are times he is almost blue.

Wow nice tank and great fronts. I always loved tinfoil barbs. How are they with the fronts ? Seems like they would be good. Too bad my water at this home is too high a ph for them (ph is 9+).

does anyone know might this front might e cos he has a different facial mask/stripe to the rest of my burundi, and also has a slight yellow tinge in his dorsal fin...

Hi All

So after reading and seeing so many fronts, I've decided to take the plunge and get into this beautiful species! I purchased a group of 7 two days ago, they are about 4 to maybe 5 inches. Pics are below!

They are kinda weird, the colors keep changin and they are very shy... I have to soak the food so it sinks to the bottom for them to eat... They haven't come to the top yet, but then again, it's only been 2 days.. I've given them freeze dried shrimp and pellets..

Also, Could you guys help me and confirm the exact species? I can take additional pics if necessary.... Thanks!

My husband and i finally picked out two of our new additions to our home. The larger one was a little beat up but we still chose to take him home to give him a good place to live. The LFS was like dont you want any of these ones, their not beat up. NOPE :) were suckers for beat up fish. But im sure he be back to normal in no time. Will post more pics soon.255124

Here are my new fronts (6) and their setup. I will be adding some hiding places today.:D Their about 1" long in a 55. I am looking at a 180 tonight If I get it I will still grow them out for a few months in this tank.

hello everyone, ever since i became a member on this site ive really only posted in the piranha forum, the reason being i had no pics of my frontosa. until now that is. im new to piranhas so i also had alot of questions. now back to my babies my pride and joy. ive really wanted to tell you all how i got introduced into this wonderful hobby so now is my chance. it was about 7 months ago when i decided to get a fish tank after seeing a fahaka puffer. my parents had tanks in the past but i really wanted one in my room. so i did all my research and got my tank fully cycled but realized i wanted to add some more decor before i added my main fish ( fahaka puffer) wich i was waiting to pick up . so i went to my local petsmart an bought a plastic stump for my 20 gallon tank ( remember i was new) when a zebra bright blue fish with a very cute face splashed the surface of one of the tanks. he and what i think was his sister were in a tank with a really really big and mean purple cichlid with a yellow tail i think it was from malawi. but anyweys the males tail was split down to the stub so it looked like he had 2 tails and he was just trying to stay alive while the other fish basically raped him and his sister. she was nearly dead and he was marked for 24.95 . i had to have him! and i wanted his sister too so i told the really stupid little girl working there if i could have them both for 25 but she refused so i told her to seperate the sister from the evil fish and i bought my very first fish. that night he was about an inch and 3/4 and wouldnt stop fighting his reflection. i had no idea he would one day become a 16 inch monsterfish. but after healing him up and doing my research here he is today. the dominant male of 6 other fronts ( 4 female) the king of my 125 ...FRONTS ONLY!!! ( o and a pleco :) )256940

about three years...thanks very much... he is my favorite of the fronts..i was able to get these few pics with most of them out..no light on though so pics are nothing special... but at least i get to see them all in pics..

we ordered a few alleged "red frontosas" a while back, and this guy came in with them. hes not actually a SB i just thought the title would sound interesting. the others in the batch were pretty much normal so hes just a little "different".
