1 kg = 1.25 liters = 2.2 pounds

Buying the 1kg box is already discounted 20% from the 300gram bag.

If you are looking to buy a lot I can work with you on the pricing.

Please me with details about how much you are looking to buy.

kevin@notjustfish.com Please put biohome in the subject title.

Thank You

How much would I need for my new 150gal? I have a fluval 404 and a fx5 on the way...I plan on using biospira to seed the new media. Would it be better to put it in the 404 or the fx5?

Eric

The key to success with Biohome is the rate of flow that water travels through it.
The manufacturer suggests 5mm/sec. This translates to 1in/5secs.
For example:
If you are you are using a canister. The rate at which the water rises through
the canister is 1in per 5 secs.

Also, you need to keep in mind how much nitrates your tank is producing.
If you have a 90 gal tank that is jammed packed with huge catfish, peacock bass, and
other monsterfish you will need to use more biohome to be able to keep up
with the amount of nitrate you are producing.

The manufacturer claims 1 liter (1kg) of biohome can handle 2250 liters(562 gals)
But I prefer to use 1kg for 150 gals of water. This amount will be sufficient to easily
handle all ammonia and nitrite.

To handle Nitrates the manufacturer recommends 1 sqcm of biohome to 8 sqcm of fish.
But from my tests that calculation only works if you are talking about guppies and tetras that consume dry foods. I personally use 1-2kgs per monsterfish because the bioload they put on the tank is heavy. My fish are eating shrimp, beefheart, worms, etc. I usually fill
my sump or canister with as much as you can fit.

Basically biohome works, you just need to figure out your bioload in order for it
to work correctly for you.

it may remove nitrates, but what about other DOCs?

Hey Eric,
If your goal is to control nitrates, I would fill 1kg into fx5 and run it normally, then for
the 404 I would fill in as much as you can and use the control valve to run the water slower so the biohome has more time to work on the nitrates.

That would be a job for carbon, or water changes.

1 kilogram is 1000 grams
1.25 liter = 1250 grams = 1 kilogram

Sorry bro ... but the part in the above quote cannot be correct. :nilly:

How much would i need to fill your normal canister filter! I filled my xp3 with 6 liters of ehiem pro! Would i need about the same of biohome to fill my ehiem 2217!
I have a 20 gallon wetdry on my 240, should i just get rid of the bioballs and fill the sump with biohome! tank is always at 40nitrates!
I have 7 tanks in my house and no matter what i do i cant get my nitrates below 15-20!

I'm not sure how big or how much room for filter media in the ehiem2217.
As for your xp3, if it took 6 liters to fill that, then it should be the same for biohome.
DO NOT throw away your bioballs, that is what is running your tank right now.
You will get an ammonia and nitrite spike, because you basically are throwing away your good bacteria. I would add the biohome and let them run together until the biohome is established then replace the bioballs or just keep it in there.

levi,

doc can only be removed through water changes

I just wanted to put that out there. people dont need the false impression that you can do without water changes because the nitrates are low.

You are absolutely correct. Reducing nitrates improves water quality, and reduces the need to change water as often, you still need to do some water changes to replenish minerals and trace element in your tank.

Can I pick up in person. I would like to pick up a Kilo to try out.
