This thread is for discussion on books that deal with anything related to fish, fishkeeping, making of tanks, filters, amphibian keeping etc.
Many of us are new to fishkeeping and learning fast is a necessity. A search on this topic on mfk produced nothing.
For now the following books are listed in my cart at amazon.com :
- Dr. Axelrod's Mini-Atlas of Freshwater Aquarium Fishes
- Aquarium Fishes of the World - Herbert Axelrod; Hardcover
There are very few reviews on these books at the amazon.com, and these few aren't very conclusive.
I am asking everybody to name whatever books they've read; and provide short evaluation.

* DK Encyclopedia of Aquarium & Pond Fish
--David Alderton
This is a huge 400 page book that includes everything. It has how to set up tanks, what type of tanks there are and the responsibility of each tank. They show how to buy and introduce fish. It also has tons of clear pictures as well as descriptions to help guide you thru whatever it is. They tell how to feed the fish, health problems, treating illness, breeding, reproduction, ligthing, filtration, food, plants of marine and freshwater fish. They have hundreds of fish bios, which have pics, origins, size, diet, water conditions, and agression meter, for every fish. They also cover invertabrates marine and fresh, along with plants marine and fresh. They also have a section on ponds, the set up, fish, plants, care. This is a huge book that covers everything you need to know about the fish before you buy it, along with tank care. Highly recomended.

I read and own a book by Peter Hiscock titled "The Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants" published by Barron. The book is highly illustrated with colorful pictures and valuable information on the various types of aquarium plants available to the hobby (or in the market). Methods on maintaining a planted aquarium are discussed. In addition to the pictures of the plants provided, the book also classifies the names of the plants into alphabetical order (A to Z); which delivers the convenience for the readers who want fast access to the information they want. This is definitely a good reference book for an aquarist who likes or keeps planted aquarium.
