Not Just Fish
01-14-2007, 6:08 PM
I would like to introduce MonsterFishKeepers to our new product.
It is AquaTerra 3D Backgrounds. These are naturalistic backgrounds
that go inside the tank. They are super realistic looking and very durable.
These backgrounds will transform any tank into a beautiful show tank.
You can see our advertisement in TFH for the last couple of months.
In the past this type of decor was only available in Europe. Now we have
it available in the USA.

Wow. Prices are actually pretty reasonable. Now which background is which? Could you give what each one pictured is called? Thanks.
Also, are you going to be selling these in the short term only, or will you be selling these from here on out?

good question
do the colors fade? and do they deterirate? i had a styrofoam background once and my pleco just wouldnt have it. are these anymore durable than styrofoam?
Not Just Fish
01-16-2007, 5:41 PM
Yes they are more durable then styrofoam. It is constructed from high density foam.
There is also has a hard coating surface. Paint will not fade or deteriorate but, plecos
do have the ability to chew off the paint.
Algae eaters, oto cats are suggested for cleaning algae.
You can also clean with a soft bristle brush like a toothbrush but bigger.

Yes they go in the tank. There is still plently of room for the fish. Think of it as a decoration that goes in the tank, like if you were putting driftwood.

if you go to the site they tell you how much some of these stick out. for example, the "rainforest" design sticks out from the back of the tank 6" in some spots. they look pissa but seem to take up more space then I'd like. i'm still going to buy one at some point.
wow a lot of them look pretty good.
How do they work with HOB and canister filters? I cant figure it out with these pics or the ones on there website.

Hi, I seen it in Aquarama 2007 in Singapore. Boy, they sure look nice and real. Do you have any Asia distributor or contact where I can make enquiry?
They got at my LFS, they are soo pretty, make me want to puke when I see a paper flower background thing...

the largest they make is 72x24x24. My tank is 72x30x24. I've been told some people build up the background with rocks. I opted to use hanging plants. I just filled the tank last night, I'll post pic's when the water clears.

Oh, my tank is only going to be 2ft. high and 3ft wide to compensate for the extra room needed for the background. So I guess it'll be 72"x24"x36"?

The water is still cloudy and the tank and stand aren't fished, but you get the idea. Since I have some current in the tank the plants flow with the current.

Looks good. My tank will only be 2ft high so I wont have to worry about it showing. I think I'd need room for an arowana to swim up top though.

I hate to dig up a somewhat old topic but I can't seem to get in touch with anyone about these backgrounds. I'm ready to set up my new 120g and I have some questions and would really like to get one of these but Aquaterra doesn't answer emails or my phone messages. I can't even get anyone from the "authroized dealers" to talk to me. Does anyone know how to contact them?
Danger_Chicken

Stay away from Auqascape as an authorized dealer. They charged me for a background and I never got from them. I bought right from notjustfish (aquaterra). It seems most places don't stock the backgrounds so you're jsut dealing with middle man any. Some times it takes Kevin a few days to get back to you so keep trying the backgrounds are worth it.

Yeah, I finally got in touch with Kevin and he was really nice. I still haven't decided what to do. I'm planning for only one oscar in a 120g. I thought it would be nice to hide the plumbing and heater behind the background so the oscar won't be able to attack and break things...but I want to make sure it will have enough room to swim easily. My tank is 24x18x60. Kevin was very helpful and recommended the rainforest (which I'm not crazy about) or the slimline (which I can't hide anything behind). I really like the rock backgrounds though. I'm torn.

I've got my tank up and running. I ended up going with the slimline mesa wall then attaching two modular rocks to it for more 3D effect. Also attached a modular rock to the bottom of the tank. I'm very happy and it was all very easy to install. Here are some pics:

Tank looks fantastic. When I setup my 240 I'm definately going to do something like this. Is there a way to hide the intake/ouput tube behind the background? Also where do you have your heater located? Thanks
