i would have to say cabinet since it supports the tank all around and not just at the corners.

If you are building it yourself wood would be the easiest unless you can weld and know that when you weld metal it pulls towards the weld. A properly built metal stand will support the tank all the way around.
I have built both and I think wood is by far the least expensive and quickest.
