My LFS has two blue oscars. Their coloring looks natural which is wierd considering I was told they were tatooed. Can someone set me straight on these. Are they really tattooed, dyed, or painted? Does the color last or does it fade as they grow?

dyed... fades as it grows...

They look neat , I almost bought some , a lfs was selling them as Blueberry Oscars and I thought they looked sweet. After doing some research I found they were dyed and I was very dissapointed and never got them and I haven't stepped into that LFS again.

Its amazing.
Fish come in more colors than flowers and they still go and inject dye into them and put them in acid dips to strip slime coats and dye their whole bodies different colors.

(i know a comm. seller on this site that sells them) -.... was i not supposed to say that.

Yeap, color fades away in a couple months and the oscars turn grey and dull. I hear they do not live as long as normal oscars because of the process of dying them.

I've kept my eye on a batch at a local Walmart. They aren't blue any more.
