I was at my LFS when an order came in. One of the bags had about 10 Florida gars at about 12-14 inches. The owner seemed surprised that they were so big. The employees dumped the gars into 2 bucket not even wide enough to accommodate their length. They found 2 tanks of about 20 gallons and proceeded to try to net the gars to get them into their tank. Two of the fish jumped and landed on the floor and the employee was too scared to pick it up. Finally she got the head in a net and threw it in the fish tank calling it an ugly fish. There was no acclimating the fish. They just dumped them in the tank. These gars already had damaged snout tips from their holding tank or transport. One of the gars was belly up when I was leaving the store. Poor gars can barely turn around in the tanks. I will see if they sell them. It is one of 3 fish stores in the city. I really want to find other stores outside the city. :irked:

that really pisses me off too! if they were dogs or cats being treated like that the store would be in deep ****!
An LFS near me had three alligator gars in a 24"x18"x12" tank and they were all around 10" give and take. Was a sad sight had no room to turn or swim, so just hovered just above the gravel.

Aw, that is such a shame. I was just saying I'd like to get one, but I just don't have the right stuff to accomodate them at the moment (tiny tank). Very sad.
