I know you arent ever supposed to keep a pacu because they grow to about eleven feet long or whatever and eat your firstborn children, but I got one anyway. He's only about 4 inches (125 gallon tank with several tankmates), and man, can he eat!
I was wondering, someone suggested you could put a pacu in an outdoor goldfish pond once he got too big. Could he survive that, going dormant like the fish do, if the water was deep enough? We here in Kansas get cold enough to freeze, though not more than an inch or so of ice on the top of lakes. Any thoughts?
Thanks, astronatus :grinyes:
I doubt it'll survive over the winter.
Red-bellied pacus grow over 2ft.

seeing as they come from a tropical/subtropical climate... thinking ya would have to artificially heat the pond to have a chance with this..!!!
they can survive a chill now and then, BUT, once the temperature goes below 60 degrees for a week or more, they are DEAD.
