update on red bay snook eggs

most of the batch went bad but out of the few hundred about 20 hatched yesterday. theyre not quite free swimming, just a bundle of them wiggling on the bottom. anyone with advice on how to care for them at this stage? should i separate them into a smaller tank now or wait till they become free swimming? what about feeding? my cousin told me to boil an egg and take a piece of the yolk and mash it up to feed the babies. that a good idea?

thanks

the parents will care for them. jus feed as you normally do and the parents will chew n spit food into the group of babies. now would be as good of a time as any to throw that divider back up if you didn't already. n if u wanna try n make sure some survive. try syphoning out like 5 of the babies after there free swimming to try to raise them.

Never know if the parents are going to make a meal out of the little ones so if you want them all to survive, l recommend siphoning them out now, considering how small that batch is.

During the time before they start swimming, all they're doing is absorbing the yolksac so l see no problem taking them out.

Side note, l noticed that somehow the ones that are kept with parents grow faster than the ones taken out to raise even though they're fed the same things and amount.

theyre starting to swim around now.. but i think they still have that yolk sack on them. i have them separated now.. they seem fine swimming around and doin whatever, but they seem to stick to the bottom swimming only down and never up. is that normal? do i start feeding them mashed food now?

thanks for all the help.

They are swimming fine that is why they call them "wrigglers" they just wiggle around on the bottom for a while.

You could try some food if you wanted I have always heard live baby brine shrimp work best. But some smashed pellet , flake , or maybe even an egg might work too.

Good luck I am leaving my baby calico cons in with the parents to see how long they will last

Hopefully they will get to about guppy size (barracuda food :naughty: ). I could save a lot of money

It's normal for the first week for them swim funny and huddle up in corner like that.

How long has it been since they hatched? They will most likely absorb all their yolksac ta few days after hatching so you'll need to start feeding them.

its been exactly a week. yea i crumbled some boiled egg yolk into the water.. should i try to put the food closest to them? because a lot are scattered and some are huddled up. or just put the food in the water and they find it?

thanks
