I think the tank is awesome also, but don't you think a planted tank like that would be a big pain in the ass to keep? Could you imaging how long it tanks to trim?

Amano probably has a harness and hangs from the ceiling like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible to trim the hard to reach areas. :D

I'm not a plant expert but maybe he has everything so perfect that growth isn't a problem. Just trim dead matter away.

I think...THINK the tank is 12 feet long and close to 2000g. Not 100% on that though.

You should see the tank now. :) the plants on the left are growing about 24" out of the tank. Gotta love a tank that requires a crane for install!

When I see giant tanks like that I wonder how they're even brought in. Was his house built around the tank?

Plantguy
10-05-2005, 2:04 AM
I think it was craned into place after the walls were cast. Don't know if they brought it in from the top or through the opening leading to the pond. Those pics were'nt in the aquajournal. It's a work of art. More stainless than a Delorean. Full of Altum angels. :)

Heres some recent shots from Ben and Ricky of the DFWAPC. They went a few weeks back for the ADA party. Lots of nice shops, and some really nice pics of Amanos home (Big tank) and the ADA gallery.

what makes you think the tank wasnt made in its location as that how most big tanks are made (it could also be made out of acylic ) then 4 men could have lifted it anyway

get all the flowers out and put a few rays and a shoal of arowana and the tank would look sweet

also were is the filteration

Does he have a book out?

what makes you think the tank wasnt made in its location

Because I saw the pictures of it being craned in. :)

You can see the filtration in some of the pics Ricky and Ben took at the link above, there is also a large sump behind the tank under the tile that you can't see.

He has several books out, most of them realting to nature aquariums. He is a very skilled photographer, kinda like japans answer to Ansel Adams. :)

I am curious about this guy, " Amano" in some of the Amazon Indian languages means rainforest, is it his real name or just a happy coincidence?
he sure does set up a beautiful tank !.

David, he Takashi Amano is japanese and that last name is pretty common
over there. So its probably just a happy coincidence :D

If his house is in Japan then thats crazy.

I have heard that a 4' tank can cost more than a new car there because in Japan the population density is so high that 4ft. of floor space is very expensive.
But think abt. his tank its huge. :WHOA:

Howdy,

I have to agree that Amano's tanks are an impressive sight. And I got caught on his idea myself before. However, what he calls "Nature Aquarium" isn't nature. You have to prune plants more often than you have to mow your lawn (no kidding). That involves waaay too much work, and it's certainly not like that anywhere in nature. Put a few silver dollars in, and it'll be a great habitat, though!!!

 awesome tank. I dont think trimming that plant is a chore to him, its his hobby. even if he had to trim it, he can easily have his workers or students do it. i would keep a school of african tigerfish and a large amount of small schooling fish that also glitter in the light
