Thanks! Pop over last night but seems not many stocks. Maybe no new shipments. Anything that I should look out if setting up with aro, such as PH, choice of members, etc. My tank is a 6x2.5x2.5 with sump

CF is one of the place where you can get cheaper fish and a good place for you to start a monster fish com. ie. yishun 618 is selling e northern pike at $38 at 3" whereas CF is selling at $20 for 3".
you may wish to consider this few choices....they dun have much of a problem as they can adapt to the same water management as your aro.
1) endlicheri
2) M. tigrinus
3) peacock bass
4) Datniods ST
5) gars
6) pike
7) rays
9) snake heads
and etc...
the above mentions are mostly my favourites. just a gentle reminder, try to comm them at a juvenile stage and to ensure that they are all well fed. the theory is the same as aro comm.... :) i maintain the PH range from 6.5 to 7.2.
Simple and yet straight forward answers! To the point and to my needs. Thanks!

well... think of it this way... you could always put it back if you found it boring...
hoplias lie on the bottom... pikes generally stay around the middle levels... don't move around much save to stretch and stalk prey. But activity level around the same, pike being slightly more active
I just read a state study done in South Dakota thats said the average weight foe a female northern pike at age 2 was one kilo and at age 3 was 2.25 kilos.

I own a pike, ( called Pikey ) :) it's about a foot long now, and it's amasing the reaction you get when you tell people or even better show them it.
If you own a large catfish or cichlid from the likes of South America a lot of people think that is cool, but I have found that a lot of the BIG fish owners never think of keeping a native BIG fish here in the UK.

chris - did you fish for yours or buy it?
It is surprising that you don't find any in the aquarium trade, I mean why not? You'd have thought they'd be easily available being a native fish. Easy to look after predator that doesn't even need a heater.
For example - look how widely available America and Asia's native fish are, gars/arowanas respectively etc etc
I wanna pike :D

Heres a pic of my most recent catch.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/jlarr/IMG_0979.jpg
In a tank I had previously there were two pikes, 4 walleye, a couple rock bass and some bullheads. Eventually the pikes were the only ones left.
I remember one time I only threw in one feeder and they both grapped it at the same time and started wrestling each other for it...like how dogs jerk there heads back and forth. So cool!!

This set-up at the time was too pink for my taste, so I took out the gravel and added sand and live plants. Looks much better now.

wow, that would be soo cool being able to go to the lfs and purchase a northern... here in the us it is illegal to sell natives. yes, living in michigan i am "surrounded" by northerns but in all my years have never seen a 6 inch pike in a lake TO net or capture...
oh, nate... i actually caught my first pike this summer at a lake near ithaca (near mt. pleasant)... was about 18-19 inches. was cool, but was nowhere near the fight like a sizeable lg mouth bass...

NICE NORTHERN   , I want to go pike fishing so bad I have never been...
I used to go a few hundred miles north of Wawa, Ont., Canada every summer after northern pike and walleye. The northerns were very aggressive feeding fish. and oh! they tasted sooo good. btw, average size of the northerns was about 32"

This bring back memories
My 10" Northern Pike I caught jumped out of my tank and died. I miss watching him eat up feeder minnows and gold fish. I swear they are strong, he popped out of my glass top, had to jump so hard that the top raised enough for him to fit. I couldn't believe it till this day. The only reason why I know he jump ( not my little cousin taking him out ) was because the first time he almost died but the second time I found him too late.
Northerns are nice but they stay motionless for a long time, it's when you feed them that they're very good to keep.

they can handle like 24-25 celcius. In colder areas the water gets to that temp in the summer and they do fine... they just have to eat alot... n give them lots of oxygen by adding extra air pumps
